Vehicles & Kits

Original is a big map and most monuments aren't next door. Rent a car for quick runs, grab a helicopter if you've got the Cash, or coast out to sea in a submarine. And before you even find a vehicle — claim your starter kit so you hit the ground running.

Getting Around

Vehicles are rented with Cash — the server's paper currency. Every major vehicle type is available: cars, helicopters, boats, and submarines. Pick what your route demands.

On foot, the map is large and dangerous. A vehicle means faster monument runs, a safer escape after a heist, and the ability to push fights on your terms. Cars are the everyday workhorse. Minicopters cut across terrain and let you reach high-tier spots quickly. Boats and submarines open up the coastal and underwater routes that most players skip entirely.

Bank your Cash firstVehicles are paid out of your carried Cash — the notes in your inventory. If you haven't banked a buffer you can lose it all to one bad death before you even reach the rental store. More on banking at Banking & Marketplace.

Renting a Vehicle

Every vehicle on Original is rent-only — there's no permanent purchase. You rent from the in-game Vehicle Store, either through your phone or from a dealer NPC at an outpost. Both draw from the same rental list and the same prices.

The Rental Store

Open your phone with /phone, then tap the Vehicle Store app. This is the fastest way to spawn a vehicle next to you. You pay the rental Cash upfront and the vehicle is yours until you're done with it.

Rentals are not free to keepThe rental fee is a one-time Cash payment, but the vehicle isn't permanent. Return it or park it when you're done — abandoned vehicles despawn and you won't get the Cash back.

Donor perk: air-drop a Private CarPlayers with a qualifying donor rank can call in a Private Car (an armored modular car) dropped to their location by plane with /pcar — usable once every 24 hours.

Outpost Vehicle Dealers

Outpost vendors also rent vehicles in person — a car dealer, a helicopter dealer, and a boat dealer each cover their own category. Walk up, pay the rental Cash, and the vehicle spawns for you. They draw from the same rental list and prices as the Vehicle Store phone app, so it's purely a matter of whichever is closer when you need a ride.

Check your Cash balance before heading outRental prices are paid in carried Cash, not banked Cash. Withdraw what you need at an ATM first. See Earning Cash for the fastest ways to fill your wallet.

Fuel & Care

Vehicles run on low-grade fuel. Every rental spawns with a partial tank, but you'll need to refuel on longer runs. To top up, hold low-grade fuel in your active slot and press Reload while looking at the vehicle — this is standard Rust refuelling behavior.

Where to Get Fuel

Low-grade fuel is sold at the Vehicle Parts vendor at outposts, as well as at Equipment Stores and the Fishing Store. It's one of the cheapest items on the server — stock a stack before you set off.

Vehicle Parts Vendor

The Vehicle Parts vendor at the outpost covers everything your car needs to keep moving. It sells:

  • Low-grade fuel — the primary fuel for all land vehicles.
  • Vehicle modules and parts — replacement and upgrade components for modular vehicles.

Two Vehicle Parts vendors are mapped to outpost locations. If one is busy or picked clean, the other is nearby. See Outpost Vendors for the full vendor list and locations.

Don't run dry far from an outpostA vehicle that runs out of fuel on the road is a sitting target. Carry a stack of low-grade and refuel before the gauge drops too low, especially on helicopter runs where there's no coasting to safety.

Upkeep & Decay

Vehicles left in the open decay over time, and another player can claim or destroy one you leave unattended. There is no vehicle-storage command — if you want to keep a rental, park it somewhere defensible next to or inside your base, and don't leave it sitting out for long. Abandoned vehicles eventually despawn.

Kits

Kits are free or donor loadout packages you claim with /kit. They give you a head-start without having to scavenge every item from scratch.

Type /kit in chat to open the kit menu. Each kit has a cooldown — after claiming it you'll need to wait before you can claim it again. The cooldown resets each wipe for kits that are weekly.

Free Starter Kits

Two kits are available to everyone on the server with no donor rank required:

KitCooldownWho Can ClaimWhat It's For
Starter7 daysAll playersBasic gear to start the wipe — tools, resources, survival items
Lazarus7 daysAll playersA second weekly kit with progression-friendly supplies
Claim on wipe dayWeekly kits reset with the wipe. Claim your Starter and Lazarus kits early so you're not catching up while everyone else already has gear banked.

Donor Kits

Donor ranks unlock additional daily kits with stronger loadouts. These are only available to players who hold an active donor rank — VIP, VIP+, or Infected. Each refreshes every 24 hours, so active donors get a meaningful daily advantage:

KitRequired RankCooldownWhat It Contains
VIPVIP or higher24 hoursDaily VIP loadout — weapons, gear, survival supplies
VIP+VIP+24 hoursUpgraded VIP loadout with stronger items
InfectedInfected24 hoursTop-tier daily loadout for Infected rank holders

Donor ranks also come with additional perks beyond kits — extra ATM capacity, increased RP cap, and more. The full breakdown is on the Perks & Donor Ranks page.

Event Kits

A handful of kits are distributed as event rewards or through the Lazarus Pass rather than claimed via /kit. These include themed loadouts like the Supply Drop kit, which requires the kits.supply permission and has a 24-hour cooldown. Check your Lazarus Pass reward track and server events for when these are handed out.
